Coho Salmon were running so Jack and I flew the 180 out to Polly Creek, Alaska. We were joined by Ian and his wife in their 170. Fish weren't biting much, but had a great time.

Shortbilled Spearfish with Kona Cowboy Sport Fishing
Переглядів 1122 місяці тому
Fishing with my buddy Jay on the Kona Cowboy when we caught our first Shortbilled Spearfish. Not the drama of a Blue Marlin, but the Spearfish was a bucket list item for us. The captain and crew were amazing. Very organized and efficient. We were impressed!

      Thanks for the comment! The season lasts about 2 weeks and the limit is 25 for the permit holder and 10 for every additional family member. So if you have a family of four or five, that's an awful lot of fish! :D

    I would rather people do this and not buy into the commercial fishery BS! Our natural resources are to far depleted to sustain commercial fisheries. Also this method will help preserve numbers. People want to say there is enough. Sorry I do not buy into that BS whatsoever! Look at the CA northern coast and the struggle of the fisheries there! Heck all CA! And you guessed it! The idiots of the past said the same! Oh there is plenty! Its now almost gone! Our issues is the greed to take, take, and take! Not using our freakin brains one bit! I fish Alaska myself and usually take 50lbs of salmon meat and last me and 8 family members for a damn year! I catch and release everything in the lower states. But do not buy anything fish related in stores of any sort. As for me personally I dont care for this type of fishing HAHAHA Boring and not my style. I'm to much of the swing flies or strip flies junky! So I stick to it. But for this netting to work commercial in my opinion has to be done away with! Let people catch their own fish! Oh and one last argument I want to post.... People state that there are so many and they die anyways or this or that.... Sorry so not a smart argument!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine the past with millions and millions of fish coming up yet it was just fine! People seem to forget that we humans are not the only beings that rely on this resource! There are more important life on this planet that require salmon. They can't raise a chicken, or work a garden for veggies and so on! They feed on salmon. Orca, sea lions, seals, sharks, and many others above salmon in the food chain. One day if enough education is not put in the minds of people all of this will be gone. Then again most humans really are effen so selfish that they could give two turtle craps about anything outside of their lives! 0_o We need to open our eyes. Research this subject and see if I'm wrong. Here is one simple fact! California sardine fishing has been closed for the 3rd year in a row because from the minimum, 150 million tons, that are on the west coast there are only estimated 85, 89 million tons. A healthy year is 200-300 millions tons. DO the research and find out. Dont just read what I wrote. Its all online and easy to find ;) I do apologize for the rant but education is the key!

      Thanks. Catch and release appears to be a new sort of religion, fronted by holy rollers with fishing rods and selfie sticks. When I catch an edible fish over the required weight it gets killed and eaten. Anything undersize gets thrown back. I do not see, and I speak as a keen fisherman, how sticking a hook into an unsuspecting creature and watching and feeling its struggles for as long as possible, for the 'fun', and the selfie, can ever be morally justified. It's sheer bloody sadism.

      @healerf18 8 років тому

      +MSG685 It does seem a bit like cheating, but it's a harvest rather than a sport fishery. Just like the commercial netting industry except that these fish cannot be sold. They have to be kept for personal use. The Fish and Game department keeps very close tabs on the numbers of fish every year. Thanks for the comment!

    Wow , comment section is ridiculous here. What is difference spearing, netting, trapping , hooking, or even pen raising? The object is to feed your family not have a sporting contest with a fish. Don't think most understand Alaska has a subsidiary living option where residents can basically live off the land. Long time since I was stationed there , but many get hooked and never leave.

      +Broxty this isn't really fishing, rather it's a harvest. It's much like commercial salmon fishing, except that we can't sell the fish we catch. Strictly personal use The fisheries monitor it very closely and will close it down if the salmon numbers are ever threatened.

    I just watched a research and it was scary! Slower growing Fish like Salmon (4-5 yrs) Cod (6-10 yrs) and really slow groing Fish like Halibut or Bluefin Tuna (up to 35- 40 yrs) are contain huge amounts of Mercury. They said if a Person eat slower growing Fish every day,they could die of Mercury poisoning within 8-10 yrs. They discovered that in Newfoundland many of the Fishermen die from Mewrcjury related problem s,but they'd never knew that,because families up there NF don't like Autopsy so the Doctors and Coroners just make out tthe reason of death,what's most likely,like Heart Disease,Cancer,Diabetes,etc! This Younger Dr (Dr Lennox) who's hobby is Marine Biology started to check for Mercury levels in the Bodies,and found that about 65%+ of the PPl HAVE had,extremely high sometems hundreds of times over the safe amount of Mercury Levels! He also discovered wih his Collague Dr Garrett a Microbiologist,at Cancer cells love Mercury and higher he Mercury level hire the rISK OF Cancer! Dr Lennox Suggests if ppl love Saltwater Fish than eat quick fas growing species like Sardines,Herrings,Mackerel,Mahi Mahi,Lionfish,Shrims,Squids, and eat more Freshwater Fish!!! Thanx!
